The essay will discuss on the significance of life event of the people due to family problem or loss of person. The study will focus on describing the responsiveness group in terms of providing the critical factors that will be experienced from other’s life. 1.1 Explanation of physical, psychological and social impact of bereavement on individuals
The life events may be described as the change occurred in an individual life from the practical experience of loss or gaining something unusual which cannot be estimated in terms of monetary value. Smith and Segal (July,2013), states that this type of event might have both consequences – positive and negative. The impact will be on many aspects of the individual as mental, physical, social and biological behavior of the person. It is customary for the SLEs which might be stressful to drive the human being towards various responsive nesses to stress. Cognition is the normal way of responding in case of losing someone nearer to you, which led the loss of concentration, judging power etc. the cognition is the responses which is also similar in case of physiological responsiveness from the people due to not meeting the desire of concerned needs. This response increases due to increased impact on the health of a person due to that loss. According to Corcoran, (2013), physical challenges increase due to loss of someone nearer to one which might lead to an individual towards an unfamiliar world where people barely can manage themselves showing their grief in those cases. The social value of a human being or an incident might be a cause in responses from the same value source due to loss like that and further, the loss may be associated with the daily activity of the group of people. Emotionally, people can bear a certain limit of stress, which may be outburst during the SLE while it is a normal process of expressing the inner side of the humanity by an individual. Confusion and meticulous behavior is the examples of grief of a human being which might be described as the contagious negative synergy flows into our system. The symptoms of grieves are sleepless night, painful day of an individual. As observed by Hall, Shucksmith and Russell (2013), the best model to describe the grief of people is the Kubler-Ross model where grief is processed through a five stage model with different patterns among the individuals. The five stage model starts with denial and ends with the acceptance of a human behavior. The model describes that sudden change especially the SLE makes the people to deny the matter at first due to hollow position happens to be in the life of the people. The stage two is designed with the anger shown from the individual who states the emotional distress of the human being. The third stage describes that human being starts its initial bargaining with the ultimate power and starts to compromise with the situation. The fourth stage designates the readiness among the people where they can work with a depression of their sorrow. The last stage of the human grief is accepting the fact that has happened and starts over their life. The stages are designed in the Kubler-Ross model might not come in the same order as described earlier in an individual as there are very little differences between the two (McLeod, 2010).
In the current context, George punished himself by stressing his mental situation due to his absence from his mother’s prolonged illness of cancer. He blamed himself due to ill-balancing with his young family and dying mother. The mental stage of George can be explained all of a sudden in line with the Kubler-Ross cycle of grief which starts with his anger due to his long absence from his mother which led to her mother not saying anything about her prolonged illness. He bargained with the situation by spending every single minute with his mother in her last minutes for showing his affection for her. The acceptance stage came much later for George after her mother died and before that the stage of depression helps him to raise the money for fulfilling his mother’s last wishes. He accepted the situation in the mean time which was much later after the pupils’ responses towards their ex-teacher of their school.
1.2 Analysis on possible group responses to bereavement
Groups like family, community, school, social working group, friends, colleagues etc are associated with responding in case of bereavement due to loss of nearer someone. As stated by Saxon, (2009), family is the main support in delivering the individual people for making them steady in such situation whereas the same situation happens with them due to that loss and also mourning of the family members become a sharing event of SLE which might reduce the stress on the individual. The contribution towards burial arrangement, death ceremony and time spending by sharing some lovable memory of lost person might help the individual to recover from the bereavement faster. Family stands by the individual in any adverse situation of an individual are a concerned matter for them to work in the same way due to loss of the family members. In this term, friends are one of the best possible way to interact with at the time of grievances of such deep concern in a human being life. The friends may help an individual by compassionately with showing him a different way for the life and also reflect the situation into a different form and position. However, sharing of the same condition might not help in this case which is a common phenomenon in this case by the friends (Telford and Wrekin 2010).
The local community is the group that might provide help and condolences to the bereaved person. It is the common matter for the community to listen the individual’s grief which presumed to become lower due to keep supporting to individual’s effort in that case positively. The responses from the colleagues are quite professional by means while they are also helpful in developing the situation under control of the individual people supporting him in lieu of bereavement. The observation from societal responses by Wilson and Kirshbaum (2011), states that groups like community and care people, hospitals have importance in delivering the group supporting very much with responding in their bereavement. There are many support groups that helps in this stage of people such as McMillan Cancer centre, Palliative care services who provide supports to individual by offering help and also advices. The special society may arrange a meeting to hear the bereaved person individually which might reduce the heat of the sudden loss (DHSSPSNI, 2010).
After the death of Mrs. Garry, the responses from the social, individual, family were significant as seen in the study. The effort from his son of providing a chance and keeping the wishes of his mother intact after her death was the matter of supporting her after death. The groups of people who were associated with the situation directly or not supported the effort taken by George for raising money from the school where she used to be a teacher. The pupils of the school also contribute in responding back in bereavement which had impact on raising $300 soon.
1.3 Analysis on the impact on others from health and social sector due to one’s bereavement
The impact on the individual due to SLE is a normal incident, but the impact is flown over others such as professional who are attached with that family or person. As stated by (), nurses are mainly influenced by the loss of any such person with whom they are associated on working for them. The situation is true for the care givers too as they have almost homogenous job comparing with nurses. The situation arises due to the long time relationship with the patient and their family during the work which let them to be attached with emotionally, psychologically and socially with the patients. The death of a patient affects the nurses psychologically due to their involvement with the patients and their families in work place. According to (), these professionals might feel lose of friend due to lose of any prolonged ill patient under their observation for long time which might help them in developing concussion in their work with loss of concentration. The emotional stress on the professionals like nurses and care givers are mainly due to emotional attachment with the patients and their relatives which might cause them in harming their emotional stability due to fatigue of loss of the closest person in workplace. According to Roper and Shapira (2000), showing compassion to the patients and their relatives is the most dangerous for the healthcare professionals as it happens to be root to attachment with out of work for them which might reduce their efficiency in their work further. As per the social system of the community, it is a basic science of relating with each other which is also true for the healthcare professionals due to their interaction with the patients and their relatives directly and enormously. Further, observed by Cahan (2009), citing the existing cultural system which is responsible for these professionals for getting attached socially with the patients during the performing of their responsibilities at work place.
In this context, it can be observed that nurse in the death scenario left the room of Mrs. Garry before she breathed her last. She also stated to George to be prepared for the bad news for the ultimate which might need to make strong for George in this case. The case is simple in hiding the emotion of her so that she can control her attachment with Mrs. Garry as it controls her sensible working culture. In this case, many researchers think a support network might be a well step for the bereaved people to let the distress out of vain from the organizational point of view.
There are many professional services that are serving the bereaved people in the country as may be seen – they help to recover the people in recovering from the SLE situation – institutions like Bereavement Care services (2012), Palliative care funding review (2011), Shaping Bereavement care (2010), McMillan Cancer Care and NICE are involved in this service. These institutions provide guidance to the people who are suffering from this type of syndrome with maintaining confidentiality of information of personal details.
BCS is an institution that provides guidance to the bereaved persons in contributing effective mental support to the individual. In this case, the institution was failed to do so at the time Mrs. Garry was alive. It also lacks of monitoring power to support the bereaved people which might be helpful in meeting their needs. Another one is Palliative Care funding review (2011), which covers its services to the children and adult facing the challenges of SLE. It also supports the living as well as the dead people and their relatives. It is observed in the case study that Mrs. Garry did not get that kind of response from the institution at the time she was alive while her son George also did not get that support when he tried to fulfill his mother’s wish. SBC is another benchmark in this category which provides the support to these types of situation to the people who are under distressed if a person has GP support. The support from this institution was not provided with for George either or his mother due to lack of referral.
The social network may provide their supports in many aspects in distress situation for suffering from SLE. The support extends to physical, mental, financial, emotional and spiritualism of a person on basis of the needs. Physically society may help the family of the deceased person by allowing them in living their distress life at a place while emotional support from the network is present along with the previous support which might be helpful in bringing back the stability of life. As observed by Collings and Watton (2010), the criticized disease like cancer needs financial support as many of the patient cannot afford the cost of the treatment. Further, after death of the nearer person, the bereaved person might become financially blind when he needs the financial support from the society at the time of burial. Spiritual support is a holistic approach provided to the mourned family members due to their mental satisfaction in delivering the cremation. The supports from these types of social networks are guided with the strict policies made by them according to their needs.
If all the above mentioned services failed to serve the objective then a referral is chosen while referral is defined as the official treatment for recovering from the distressed situation that has been arrived due to SLE. To reduce the PTSD, a traumatic person needs to consult with some experts who may help him/her to recover from this situation (NICE, 2013). Externally the person affected due to SLE can be referred to a therapist where physiotherapy and psychotherapy are provided to support in this case for regaining the confidence of living and also provide the mental strength. Spiritual support helps the bereaved person in delivering the mental satisfaction to their faith in religious belief. Agencies like McMillan Cancer care and Cruse bereavement care provide this type of support to the people in a holistic nature. In the case study, George was not provided with any kind of therapy while his mother was dead which made him stressed and traumatized. Further, the hospital where Mrs. Garry was treated did not provide any holistic service after the death of her which had to borne by George himself. From the study, it is also revealed that George needed some kind of psychological therapy to control him.
3.1 Analysis of support provided by the companies in context of supporting individuals for care service
The response from the organizations in case of SLE is guided through their own policies as there is no national policy is maintained in this case. The service provided from them must be well communicated with the society so that they can use that in time of needs. Interpersonal bonds and equal opportunity for the people may be the main reasons for the organizations to create in their policies which might help more people and also they need to protect the personal information of the bereaved people. The services like counseling, financial help, volunteering help them for effective support to them (Grande, 2009). The critical response must be made to the individual who needs responses like diffusing, debriefing, follow up etc which might be helpful in this situation. Critical response is benefit to the bereaved people in recovering from the distressed situation quickly and makes a stable life. In the context of case study, the firm where George was employed gave him leave for spending his time with her dying mother which was really helpful and appreciable.
3.2 Reflective report on personal experience from the health sector
As a healthcare professional, I have experienced such situation where patient was needed such emergency assistantship. The patient was suffering from cardiac arrest due to obesity and needed urgent medical assistantship. I alerted the authority and helped the patient to relax from that trauma which might be helpful. I remembered the same incident in my life had happened with my grandpa who also fell down due to severe cardiac arrest due to his obesity which let me attached with this patient unprofessionally. The patient was admitted by his colleague and also given sick leave from his office. The incident helps me to gain some knowledge in helping distressed, traumatized people in emergency situation for future purpose.
3.3 Recommendations for improving the support available in care home for residents
It is recommended to Care Home for improving their service in case of SLE which must be treated seriously in the agenda of the firm. The public relation officers need to be in contact with the bereaved people for responding in their distressed situation which might be possible by proper training to them. The respective situational changes in the condition of the bereaved people may change the prestigious development of the firm in this field of working. The improvement in quality of the practice of the firm might provide the patients and the relatives of them to make themselves stress free with the help provided with the firm’s managers. Further, the staff must communicate with the people in spreading the information of service provided by them which might help the bereaved people in reducing their distress due to knowing the information before they are in the situation. The government has no statutory policies regarding this which might influence the operation of the company in this sector at all. Thereby, it is the sole responsibility of the firm to help the person affected due to SLE so that he/she can be removed from the responsibility of burial and crematory union of the people for someone nearer. The firm may provide some additional service towards the therapy of psychological needs for the bereaved people to recover from the situation (Field et al. 2007). The firm must generate the support on basis of person to person which will help the people much as every personal has different needs. The person having cancer and another one having TB might not get the same treatment and supports from the firm as their needs are totally different. The support becomes changed due to different needs and circumstances which might be possible by the firm due to its flexibility in its policy.
Conclusion
Significant life events are an important part of the healthcare division which might reduce the mental illness in the country due to post death syndrome in the nearest relatives of death. This essay has tried to provide conclusion on the important factors that might help the bereaved people in recovering from the serious distress condition. Further, the kind of supports that are available from the social network is enlisted here for knowledge and informing purpose. The system of helping put the bereaved person has no perfect solution or stable system to solve the existing problems.
