Planning for demolition – Review the High school plan set, specifically A-001 Site Plan with the view that the existing tennis courts shown (assume on a concrete slab base) and any surrounding fences and adjacent driveway into Tango avenue will also be demolished and removed from site. In preparation for the disturbed land area to be made-good, compacted and re turfed at the end of demolition.

The demolition plan will follow the following steps: 1. Site visit and analysis 2. Obtaining the necessary documentation and statutory requirements 3. Design and installation of temporary structures for demolition 4. Site mobilisation and safety requirements 5. Demolition 6. Site visit and analysis A visit to the site shall be arranged. The staff conducting the site analysis will be equipped with the existing site plan containing sewerage, drainage, telecommunication, electricity and other services connection plans. The staff will identify and map out the services that are may be affected during the demolition. In addition, the staff will carry out soil tests to determine the presence of any contaminants. Also, the appropriate site for waste disposal shall be identified. 7. Obtaining necessary statutory requirements The local authority shall be on the demolition works and all necessary certificates and permits acquired. 8. Design and installation of temporary structures A signboard shall be designed and installed in the site where it is clearly visible to the public. In addition, a temporary fence will be installed all around the site of demolition. 9. Site mobilisation and safety requirements The equipment and staff necessary for the demolition will be mobilised to prepare for the demolition on site. The staff shall be equipped with mud huts, protective boots and clothing and informed on the safety measures to be adhered to during the demolition. Al vegetation near the demolition site shall be covered with dust nets. All services on site will be disconnected or rerouted. All items will be removed from site. 10. Demolition The actual demolition works will commence. Materials such as concrete or brick that can be reused or recycled will be well removed from site and taken to an appropriate recycling plant. Once the demolition is complete, the land will be compacted and infills will be added to level the land. |
Retaining walls and temporary support – Joe has been looking over the plans for the High school job, specifically the structural details, drawings S1-02, S1-11, and S1-12. Which show a considerable amount of retaining walls and associated work. He is also concerned about temporarily supporting the slabs, “back propping” after they are poured, and wants to research some different types of props. You may remember studying these elements in this unit, specifically Topic 5.2.
