Teaching is one of the noblest profession which helps in developing individuals into learned men for the future. A nation stands on the principles possessed by its inhabitants and therefore it becomes the duty of the teacher to act as guides where she or he can infuse the best of the ideals, principles and values to the individuals of the nation. The better, honest and skillful the individuals, the better productivity the individuals can provide. This ultimately helps the nation to develop its position in the global competition (Department of Education, Employment and workplace relations (DEEWR), 2017). Through my courses in both theory as well as practical domains, I have realized that teaching job is one of the best profession I could have ever taken as I am able to interact with the future experts of the nation by nurturing their budding minds and helping them to gradually develop values and principles so that they can proudly declare them as efficient professionals in their own fields and make their nations proud. In this assignment, I will mainly focus how my own family values, principles and attitudes will ultimately help me in sharing the lives and minds of the young budding children so that they can become proud citizens of the nation.
The very first principle that I believe is extremely crucial for being a proper human being is truth and honesty. I had seen my parents to have harbored truth and honesty in each of the activities and I believe that these principles have ensure me in growing a dedicating individual to my profession. I have noticed that in many cases, my present might not have had the best days or had not made us rich truth had kept us happy and united. It had helped us to live with honor and therefore I have always respected this principle in my life. Therefore, as a teacher, I should try my best to make the children develop habits where they speak truth and be honest not only to their family members but also to their friends and even to strangers they meet in their lives. This will not only help them to be professionally successful but will also enable them to live very happy personal lives (Larkins, 2014).
Secondly, honoring parents is one of the values that had been instilled within me from early childhood and this had helped me in reaching a long way although. I have always respected my parents and had always taken in consideration of their expectations for me. I believed that they always wanted the best for me and therefore I had always maintained their wishes. I believe their guidance had helped me to overcome my stressful days with great ease and had made me what I am today. I will thereby try to nurture the building minds in ways by which they learn to respect their parents and seek for their guidance in every of their activities. Honoring an respecting parents will have positive impacts on their lives where they will be able to share their happiness, fear, stress and tensions with them and thereby can save themselves form many destructive activities which may harm their lives without proper guidance (Moss, 2007).
Another important value that I will always try to make my students learn is the worth of patience. Patience is considered to be one of the best ways to success and had been called a weapon to fight mental stress by business stalwarts. A healthy, balanced life can always be developed by patience. Developing the trait had helped me not to lose hope when failures had come in my life. I had always been patient and had tried to look for the better scopes with patience. Losing patience makes person frustrated and indulges them in activities lie taking upon addiction, causing self harming behaviour, anxiety and depression. Therefore I believe that, if I am able to infuse the characteristics of infusing patience in my students, they will learn to handle despair and failures properly. They will never be wrapped in hopelessness and will continue trying their best until they achieve success (Bowes &Warburton, 2012). Teaching patience to children has indeed been important in the present generation where balancing professional and personal lives have become difficult. When such budding minds would grow up, this trait of patience will help them to overcome losses, failures, challenges and failures and will emerge out as successful citizens (Berns, 2013).
Another very important attribute that every child should learn is to be thankful and never to crave for more when they have the sufficient amounts they have in their hands. From the every childhood, my families have always taught me to remain satisfied with the amount that almighty has assigned to us and not to be greedy and crave for more. A trend often seen among children in the present days is that they are never satisfied with the amount of resources they have with them. They always seek for more when they see their friends to possess some other objects or articles. This habit stays on with the children as they gradually grow up (Lush & Boddy, 2014). With more passing of days, the greediness of such individuals make them commit crimes or make them undergo phases of depression for not getting what they want. Therefore I believe that it is very important for me to make them learn to be thankful of the resources which are provided to them and never to be greedy. In the long run, learning to be thankful with the resources, they possess in their lives will help them to avoid any unnecessary crimes and situations where they go through severe sufferings and pain. Therefore children who learn this trait will automatically have decent lifestyles which will make them responsible citizens (Baumrind, 2014).
Another important trait that my family has taught me from the very early childhood is never to discriminate between human beings. In the very early years of my schooling, I remember my father stating the fact that most of the violence and sufferings in the nations occur as individuals tend to discriminate not only among the diverse backgrounds they come from and the biasness and the stereotype backgrounds they possess but also making significant remarks on the socio-economic status of every individuals (Bailey, 2014). It might be very early for the children to learn the complexities of the issue but they can be taught to not differentiate among their friends, relatives and elders based on their gender, socio-economic status and their cultural backgrounds but to consider them as human beings who are brothers and sisters. Researchers have stated that children when infused with such ideologies for the every childhood will have lesser chances of developing stereotypes and biasness. This trait would help them to work effectively in their professional lives and communicate effectively with everyone (Grisham et al. 2017). Expressing the traits of humanity by overcoming the challenges of ego, pride, cultural stereotypes, and biasness over socio-economic status will help in overcoming issues that will ultimately make them the ideal citizen of a nation.
Another value that I believe should be implemented in their learning system is to maintain honesty and hold oneself accountable in cases of mistakes. I have seen in my families to accept and apologize for every particular mistake they have conducted and this not only included the siblings of the family but also the elder members of the family. This had not only helped us in developing strong bonds among each other but also has taught us that holding one accountable I the correct procedure for apology than playing blame games. Blame games develop escapist feelings which never take an individual long way. Not only in personal lives, but professionals lives nowadays show individuals blaming each other for a particular mistake and creating a hostile environment. Such hostile environments can never bring productivity and success at work (Lunn et al., 2017). It only creates barriers among human relationships and makes situations averse (Scarlott, 2016). Therefore teaching children to be accountable for their mistakes is extremely important for their future live so that they can develop a nation which does not promote violence but is based on love and trust.
The most important trait which should also be taught to the children is to be not selfish and to help others in times of need. My parents have always stated that helping others is an altruistic act which gives good return when one is in need. In the present days, I have seen little children to act selfish and develop competitive minds where they no longer help their friend who are not as much fast and capable as them. Helping each other by overcoming ones’ own self interest is extremely crucial nowadays in the professional fields for effective collaborative team output. Not only professional domain but helping each other in their personal field gives an individual a mental peace and helps in developing bonds with the needy (Bailey, 2014). This will help in developing a nation where everyone will stand beside the other and make the place the nation a living zone where no one finds himself or herself alone.
The present reflective study has helped me to go back through my growing year and had helped me to inculcate all the values which had been instilled in me by my parents. Truth, honesty, patience, trust, overcoming discrimination, helping traits, collaborative work and many others are extremely important traits. I want to instill these traits in my students through various activities so that they can become responsible citizens of the nations and make their nations proud with best productivity, humanity and dedication.
