As I lay in my bed, tossing and turning, wasting precious moments, I could hear the pendulum clock in the hallway chanting `tick tock’. Yet tonight was the night that I needed my sleep more than any other! In my head I could hear the groaning of my driving instructor’s last words to me `keep calm and make sure you have an early night, because tomorrow you will need to have your wits about you’. A big day I was thinking to myself, it’s not like my wedding day, yet I felt that huge changes in my life were about to take place.
This thought was followed by a moment of anger at myself for anticipating hat I was going to pass my test. Being over confident would put me at a dangerous disadvantage.
By 8 o’clock in the morning I arose and went to soak in a luxurious bath filled with lavender oil to relax me. I emerged from the depths of the tub and wrapped myself in a fluffy, pink towel.
I then returned to my room and glancing through my wardrobe, picked out a pair of baggy denim sky blue jeans and a scarlet red top. In the kitchen, I searched the cupboards looking for food with a high-energy content, but settled eventually on two pieces of toast, smothered in butter and strawberry jam.
The usual ritual was to sit down at the table and consume it, however I found myself aimlessly wandering around, taking large bites as I pace.
I was counting down the minutes until my driving instructor would pick me up and run through the final procedures with me. Every passing minute felt like a decade, yet I still had thirty minutes to go. I went into the living room and strategically placed myself in the cosy leather armchair and began to fill my head with the rules of going round a roundabout and how to do an emergency stop.
