The increasing globalization of the world requires the people from different backgrounds to interact. Many people nowadays do not reside and work in isolated environment; rather they are now a part of the competing world economy in the global network. Thus for these reasons, both profit and nonprofit making entities need to be more diverse to be competitive. The supervisors, managers, human resource and the employees need to recognize the ways which the working place is evolving and developing (Armstrong, 2014).
According to Black, (2001) the future changes in the workplace is beneficial to the institution in many different ways, both to the human resource management and employees. Respecting the differences in individuals can also increase creativity, productivity and will reduce law suits and also increase marketing opportunities. In addition it will improve the business image of the business and many more advantages. Future workplace may also prove difficult, because in managing a workplace it requires an individual to have more simple knowledge on the differences between the employees and the human resource management. This will involve eliminating discrimination, biasness and promoting inclusiveness in the business. Human resource management also faces other challenges as losses in personnel and productivity arising from prejudice and discrimination, complaints and legal action against the institution.
Employees are now using apps to manage their work and personal life or the adoption of information devices in the workforce. An example will be employees suing computer tablet and smartphones to execute some of the duties in the workplace and also in their personal lives. The use of these apps has implications to the employees, his human resource management, leaders and the managers of the organization. The performance of the organization and the employees is affected by the use of these apps in their daily activities in the organization.
The future workplace has become more diverse in that it has accepted diversity in the work environment. Diversity means understanding, accepting, acknowledging and valuing the differences among individuals with respect of age, gender, race, ethnicity background and many more.Organiations need to embrace diversity and try as much as possible to become companies that are inclusive, since diversity has the potential to yield and give greater work productivity and in addition bring competitive advantage among the companies. The management of diversity as a whole is the key component of effectively managing people in their work places. Massive changes in the work places occur mainly due to restructuring e.g. downsizing of the business and outsourcing of organization activities which involves factors affecting the human resource management in the organization. New technology and globalization in the organization have greatly impacted on the work place practices leading towards longer working hours .The state and federal legislations in the work place has made the issue of discrimination very much illegal in work place.
The future workplace changes have a number of implications to the organization as a whole in that it affects both the human resource management and employees. Companies are encouraged to embrace positive mutual co-existence in the workplace for example respecting individual differences which increases productivity, creativity in the different levels of the organization. Work place will involve the inclusiveness of the employees and the application of the human resource functions like planning, organizing and coordination of the activities of the organization. There are different challenges that face employees in the work place which involves the balance between the work life and family life, career development and projection. Other challenges involve dealing with stress in the work environment and also the organization of the activities of the organization to be able to improve the performance and productivity of the organization.
Employees in many organizations have been trying literally to balance between career and family. Work life basically involves balancing work stress and pressure from the family, friends and self. Due to such kind of life employees have come to embrace the use of applications, software to manage their daily life for example the employees are now using programs in computers to organize their work and how they can also manage them. With the increase in diversity, executives and managers needs solution for better managing field workers, back office function and systems and also the office staff. This means that the people in the organization from office to field workers need to be able to communicate, execute their work and have access to the critical information they need to conduct business, hence the introduction of apps and gadgets therefore leading to mobile apps. The use of apps has a great impact on the different employees especially the employees in the field since the smartphones and tablets are very portable making it easy for workers to interact, collaborate and present their assignments on one device. With the appropriate use of apps employees can be able to access the wide range of services and activities from their organization and at the same time be able to deal with issues concerning the family and friends. Since other apps allows the workforce to use as scanners, notebooks, calendars, presentation tools, positioning assistance, GPRs and many more.
Human resource management is also impacted by use of apps and technology at large. One way in which the human resource management has been impacted by technology by in recruiting of staffs. The apps are used to conduct a background study of the candidates to be interviewed and also plan the questions which will be used to interview the candidates making it easier in making decisions in the organization hence making life easy and improve performance. The use up apps has helped to manage employees work and also personal life better because of the following advantages that are presented. The use of apps encourages creativity and innovation where worker can use different business technology to be innovative which in turn leads to growth and expansion of the organization. The companies are able to create technological challenges hence employees end up being rewarded for coming up with great ideas by the use of technology. In addition employees sometimes use technology through internet to innovate ways of promoting a business online like advertising the services of their entity online using internet .Other social networks will be adapted by different organizations which leads to exchange of information hence encouraging brainstorming and increase of knowledge on various work related issues.
Secondly use of apps and technology enables employees to save much of their time in the business environment. The apps are used to make work easier in the organization which leads to effectiveness and efficiency in the companies’ operations. Staffs and employees in an organization use computers, desktops and laptops while others use computer tablets and smartphones to finish different tasks at workplace where errors can be able to be corrected. Use of database store business data, facilitates faster and rapid decision making at workplace (Collins, 2006). Employees can access business activities and information through one database of which this information can be stored for future use. The company can use networks to be able to share information and other devices like printers reducing employee’s movement from one department to another by sharing technology gadgets.
Thirdly the use of technology and apps improves communication in general since organizations are using various business communication technologies to change how their employees communicate and interact in various business environments for example employees and staffs can use messages services like conferencing using video and the use of tools skype to share live information. According to Clark, (2014). Technologies used in communication can also be used to serve various customers and stakeholders on time. Use of apps and technology at workplace has also created mobility that is the use of apps through internet has made it possible for the employees to work from anywhere and control their activities and work without much movements. This may involve virtual meeting application enables employees not to physically attend meeting yet information and data will be shared in real time, for example mobile work force management software enables workers in the field to access real time order information when they are in duty.
However despite these advantages the use of apps by employees it has its disadvantages on the side of the employees and the organization. First apps and technology may tend to be risky, especially when it comes to data and information security which involves securing and safekeeping of data and information security for better part of the organization. Basically all employees access private information since there is no restriction to private information in the organizations in some cases employees carry with them external drives like flash disks and memory cards to work, hence they can transfer important and critical business information and in such process these information may fall into wrong hands.
Secondly it is very expensive to buy these apps for the organization purposes and be able to maintain them. Being costly some small business may not afford the cost of hiring full time experts or technicians hence resorting to monthly technology contractors or outsourcing some of the activities which involves the use of apps and technology who charge for the work. Apps, software, computers and smartphones require maintenance either on daily, weekly or monthly basis thus increasing or involving extra cost (Sarker, 2012).
Thirdly employees using apps and technology for example , they communicate by use of cellphones, text messages, emails, what Sapp which eliminates face to face communication , hence compromising personal communication which are important in building workplace relation, therefore employees will not have time for each other in person. Such kind of communication that involves apps and technology make some employees become lazy; they rely on technology to do their work which may sometime harm the business. Also the automation of work and tasks by apps and technology encourage laziness among employees at workplace since some apps and technology kill their skills and creativity because some tasks can be done by just pressing a button. There are different tasks like sales calculation, tracking of inventories which are now done using computers and apps that have been installed in those computers. Some employees cannot even solve high end business problems since computers or software application is there to do all that with no brain challenge ( Johnson, M. 2015).
Human resource management basically deals with training, motivating and empowering and developing the employees, to have employee behavior to fit in the organization environment. Some companies and organizations make efforts to introduce information technology hence they will have human resource management system or they may have both running together in the organization. HRIS uses IT and it is an integrated system of acquiring and storing data used to make decisions in human resource development. On the other hand eHRM supports or connects the at least two or more people. All these applications used by HR department was innovated to be able to cope up with increase in the use of apps and technology by employees in workplace (Sillars, 2015).
In conclusion leadership and management often work hand in hand in workplace even though they are not one thing. The work of a manager is to plan, coordinate and organize while leaders on the other hand do the motivation and inspiring work in the organization. Hence the ultimate goal of the organization is to drive organization results and outcomes. By involving the employees and youth in the organization, it will lead to employee creativity and innovation hence introduction of apps and technology which leaders and managers have embraced and view it in a positive manner since it has increased and improved productivity in the organization. The use of apps has been a blessing to the organization (Hill, 2014).
