Tourism is the act of touring made either for a pleasure or for a business purpose. Tourism and travel Industry is a highly volatile industry which totally depends on the leisure traveler and other groups like business travelers (Aldebert, Dang and Longhi, 2011). Tourism industry is highly exposed to health, political and economic movements. Tourism industry is facing different challenges and hindrances in the current scenario. One of the major issue faced by tourism industry is the use of internet.
Tourism industry is one of the first industry where internet has been used rapidly. The use of internet has increased in a high pace where all the transactions are done through online. Today, every tickets are printed through online basis. But the major issue faced by the tourism industry was the online retailers who sell tickets online. They include various tax issues and shipping charges which becomes a problem and cause a hindrances for the traveler to travel more and more because he/she will definitely think twice to expense on hiked taxes. Internet has played a vital role in tourism industry since the beginning and caused lots of issues. Here all the information are provided online where the traveler need to go it thoroughly and precisely and then plan to book tickets accordingly (Cristiana, 2008). Internet plays a mediator between tourist and service providers where all the information required for the traveler is read online and then planned where some contents must be missing because many tourist plan for a holiday packages which include various categories. Sometimes it become difficult to manage all the customers online and provide them all the information through internet. One can reduce the amount of information on the internet which becomes a gap between the tourist and the service providers.
The growth of ecommerce has affected the tourism industry in an adverse way because there comes a huge gap between the tourist and the service providers where many information may not be clear to the traveler. This contain many terms and conditions which a tourist must read thoroughly before the conformation of the tickets and it usually happens that the tourist miss to read those terms and conditions online and have to suffer later. Central reservation system (CRS) has made the tourism industry more sophisticated and difficult where computers are used for the transportation (Medlik, S., 2012). Use of internet definitely helps in the rapid growth in the tourism industry because all the information are provided online where the service provider does not have to suffer more with the traveler. Service provider design a website for their service which include all the required information like fares of airline tickets, hotel rooms and restaurants and many more. Those who have already grab the services online and travelled can also post their reviews on their website and later the new travelers can read out all the reviews prior booking the tickets (Buhalis, D. and Jun, S.H., 2011). Reviews on the website plays a vital role for the service providers because higher the number of good reviews, higher will the customers satisfaction d at the end higher will be the growth. Good reviews on the internet gives a confidence to the tourist to book the tickets and gain a higher satisfaction level. Since all the information are provided online, the traveler are free to choose the required destinations accordingly and book the tickets. This also helps to reduce the various costs involved when earlier a traveler used to do in absence of internet. Uses of internet has helped a business to prosper and earn a higher rate of revenue and grow without any unnecessary obligations and problems.
Tourism industry is one of the important factor for the growth of the country because it is one of the major source of income. The success of any tourism industry totally depends on the total number of tourist they are able to attract towards themselves and this can be done only by reducing the number of taxes levied on an individual traveler (Kuensel corporation ltd, 2018). Uses of internet plays like bridge between a tourist and service provider so all the information must be clearly mentioned where the tourist must not suffer later. Thus, the industry can only be developed and nurtured when they get maximum number of travelers and this can be nurtured only by increasing the number of trained manpower, developing new policies for human resource development in tourism sector, changing technological innovations providing qualitative services to visitors which is a direct element for the successful tourism product, maintaining professional ethics and human relations (Riley, M., 2014). If these elements will be focused on, then the tourist can easily meet their sufficient requirements and increase their interest in travelling.
