The Effect Of Automation For Local Middle-Class Talents And Their Future Job Prospects
As stated by Schwab [6], technology is inextricable tied up with the lives of the common people and it had been seen that the emergence of the new forms of technologies had substantially improved the quality of the life that is led by the people in the present times. Fink and Elisabetta [1] are of the viewpoint that the advancements achieved within the field of technology in the recent times had both positive and negative effects of the life of the common people. On the one hand, the emergence of the different kinds of disruptive technologies had simplified the life of the common people and it is seen that unlike the earlier times they are not required to indulge in the kinds of jobs which require extensive manual or physical labor [4]. For instance, the extensive usage of the disruptive technology of automation had replaced the physical labor that the working class individuals were required to perform in the earlier times [2]. On the other hand, it had been seen that the emergence as well as the extensive usage of the different kinds of disruptive technologies had also adversely affected the lives of the working class or the middle class people [13].
As discussed by Cavusgil et al. [9], the reliance of the different corporations on the disruptive technologies had substantially reduced the employment or for that matter the job opportunities that are available to the middle class or the working class people. This in turn had adversely affected the quality of life which is being led by them by substantially limiting the employment opportunities that are available to them. The purpose of this prospective essay is to undertake an analysis of the impact of the disruptive technology of automation on the future of job and also the career prospects of the talented workers related to the middle class section of the society.
Peralta-Alva and Roitman [11] are of the viewpoint that adequate economic opportunities or for that matter employment opportunities are one of the most important basic psychosocial needs of the human beings. Adding to this, Powers and Khanna [12] have noted that the effective fulfillment of this psychosocial need of the individuals is important since it greatly determines the quality of life which is being led by the individuals. Furthermore, having adequate employment opportunities ensures the fact that the individuals would be able to have the required economic resources which in turn would help them to sustain themselves and also their family members [19]. More importantly, it had been seen that the effective fulfillment of this particular need of the individuals is influenced by their education, their skill sets, the kind of work experience that they have and others. Thus, it can be said that the fulfillment of the employment need of the individuals is directly up with the effective fulfillment of the other psychosocial needs of the individuals. Moreover, the nature or for that matter the kind of job roles which are being performed by the individuals in the present had undergone a substantial amount of change which in turn had also affected the fulfillment of this particular psychosocial need of the individuals [7].
As discussed by Ortega, Otero-Iglesias and Steinberg [14], in the earlier times it was seen that a major section of the working class population used to perform manual or for that matter physical labor and the overall growth or the development prospects of the business corporations for which they used to work depended substantially on the quality as well as the quantity of the work performed by them. However, presently, it had been seen that the emergence as well as the extensive usage of the different kinds of disruptive or innovative technologies by the business corporations had drastically changed the kind or the nature of the job roles that are being performed by the workers within the framework of the same [20]. For instance, presently the workers within the framework of the workplaces of the different business corporations are required to supervise or for that matter handle the diverse machineries or equipment which perform the manual or the physical labor that the workers used to perform in the earlier [3]. On the one hand, this had made the work of the workers much easier and also reduced the number of work related injuries or the hazards that the workers were prone to in the earlier times. On the other hand, this had substantial reduced or for that matter diminished the number of employment options or opportunities which are available to the workers in the present times [11]. Needless to say, this had hindered the effective fulfillment of the employment need of the workers from the working class background and thereby adversely affected the quality of life which is being led by them as well.
Brown, Lloyd and Souto-Otero [18] are of the viewpoint that the disruptive technologies are the kind of innovations which substantially transform the manner in which the business corporations conduct their business operations. Adding to this, Roberts and Li [19] have noted that the effect of the different disruptive technologies becomes perceptible not only within the manufacturing processes which are being used by the business corporations but also within the framework of the business model, marketing practices and others that are being used by the same. More importantly, it is seen that the effect of the different kinds of disruptive technologies also becomes perceptible when the changing customer demands, their buying behavior and others are being taken into consideration [5]. In addition to these, the extensive usage of the different kinds of disruptive technologies while facilitating the adequate completion of the different projects or the work of the business corporations had also improved both the quality and the quantity of work which is being performed by the workers who are related to the business corporations [9]. This in turn had positively affected the productivity of the business corporations which in turn had enhanced the profitability as well as the annual growth registered by them as well [4]. In the light of these aspects, it can be said that the emergence as well as the extensive usage of the different kinds of disruptive technologies had positively affected the business prospects of the various business corporations and also had also helped them to effectively attain or for that matter achieve their business objectives or goals as well.
Fink and Elisabetta [1] are of the viewpoint that an important factor which substantially affects the success attained by the business corporations can be attributed to the ease with which they are being able to embrace the recent innovative technologies within the framework of their business corporations. Adding to this, Alabdulkareem et al. [3] have noted that in the earlier times the business corporations for the attainment of competitive edge within the business markets of their operation needed to focus on the value proposition of the commodities that they offered to the customers and also the effectiveness with which they promoted or advertised the same. However, presently it is seen that merely focusing on the aspect of value proposition of the commodities or the aspect of marketing is not enough for the business corporations to acquire the required competitive edge within the business markets of their operation [13]. As discussed by David [2], the business corporations presently for the attainment of the required competitive edge are required to effective integrate the recent technologies within the spectrum of their business activities. An important example of this is the transformation that had taken place within the workforce of the different corporations and also the nature or for that matter the manner in which the diverse job roles are being completed by them [17].
According to Livingstone [5], the impact of the different kinds of disruptive technologies on the workforce of the various business corporations is perhaps one of the most important ones which directly influence the overall productivity and thereby the profitability of the business corporations. Choudaha and Van Rest [7] have noted that the impact of the different kinds of disruptive technologies like automation and the others becomes perceptible when the kind or for that matter the nature of work which is being performed by the workers within the framework of the diverse industries or the workplaces of the business corporations is being taken into account. For instance, in the earlier times it was seen that the workers used to do the physical lifting, manually prepare the different products or the commodities offered by the business corporations and others [19]. Furthermore, it was seen that the physical work which the majority of the workers were required to perform within the spectrum of the workplaces of the different corporations used to take a toll on the physical wellbeing of the workers [12]. More importantly, the workers had to suffer from back pain, physical fatigue, face different kinds of workplace accidents, were being prone to diverse workplace hazards and others [6]. Moreover, the business corporations were also required to spend a substantial amount of capital on the insurances of the workers, for covering up their accident cost or the cost related to the treatment of various workplace accidents or hazards faced by them and others [13]. However, it is seen that the adequate usage of the disruptive technology of automation had helped the contemporary business corporations to substantially overcome these issues or for that matter the challenges related to their workplace that they used to face in the earlier times.
Presently, within the workplaces of the different business corporations or the industries it is seen that all the physical or for that matter the manual labor is being performed through the effective usage of the disruptive technology of automation [19]. For instance, this particular technology is being used within the framework of the workplaces of the different business corporations for doing all the physical labor like lifting the heavy weights, loading and unloading of the delivery vehicles and others [14]. This in turn had necessitated a change within the status quo of the workforce of the different business corporations wherein it is seen that rather than performing all the physical labor the workers are required to focus more on the aspect of intellectual labor [15]. More importantly, the workers are required to supervise or for that matter control the working of the machines which are based on the technology of automation. In this connection, it needs to be said that there are dual connotations of the usage of the disruptive technology of automation within the workplaces of the different business corporations [17]. Cavusgil et al. [9] are of the viewpoint that the technology of automation had reduced the amount of physical labor that the workers are presently required to perform within the business corporations and thereby the number of health hazards, workplace accidents and others that the workers faced in the earlier. Moreover, this had also reduced the amount of capital that the business corporations used to spend in the earlier for helping their workers to overcome the negative aspects of workplace accidents, health hazards and others [7]. On the other hand, this had significantly reduced the labor or for that matter the workforce requirements of the business corporations as well since unlike the earlier times the majority of the work is being completed by the machines itself [3]. This as a matter of fact has important connotations for the middle workers who sustain themselves by working in these corporations.
Peralta-Alva and Roitman [11] are of the viewpoint that one of the distinguishing features of the individuals related to the middle class can be ascribed to the fact that over the years they have sustained themselves by performing the physical labor within the framework of the different business corporations or the industries. However, the changes within the employability sector brought on by the usage of the disruptive technology of automation by the different business corporations had given to different problems for these individuals [10]. For instance, since these individuals mainly perform the physical labor thus they have not only effectively developed the kind of skill sets or for that matter the level of education or qualifications which are required for the purpose of handling the machines or the equipment that had become an integral part of the contemporary workplaces [5]. This in turn had substantially limited the employment opportunities or the options which are presently available to the people related to the middle class and therefore they ate struggling to sustain themselves as well as their family members [4]. However, at the same time it needs to be said that the picture is not at all gloomy for all the individuals related to the middle class background. This can be explained on the basis of the fact that the individuals related to the middle class background are the most important ones since they have seen that hardships faced by the people related to the poor class and also the luxurious lifestyle that is being led by the rich people [17]. Powers and Khanna [12] are of the viewpoint that these individuals often try to break the class status quo by educating themselves and also through the acquisition of the kind of skill set or for that matter the qualifications which are likely to help them to break away from the vicious class divisions of the society.
As discussed by Autor [10], the usage of the disruptive technology of automation by the different business corporations rather than being an impediment for the talented individuals related to the middle class background having adequate educational qualifications or skill sets is actually is a blessing a disguise for them. Adding to this, Ortega, Otero-Iglesias and Steinberg [14] have noted that the talented individuals from the middle class have the opportunity to effectively utilize their talent or skill sets for adequately handling the different machines or the equipment which had become an important part of the contemporary workplaces. More importantly, unlike the earlier times the competition that these talented individuals are likely to face within the employability sector is substantially low since the majority of the individuals related to the middle class background do not possess the required skill sets or qualifications to supervise or handle the machines [9]. Thus, it can be said that the talented individuals from the middle class have finally got the opportunity to perform the nature or for that matter the job roles that they have wanted to perform for a very long time now and also acquire the required amount of economic security so as to break away from the middle class to the richer section of the society.
Roberts and Li [19] are of the viewpoint that employability sector is likely to undergo a drastic change or transformation in the coming years on the score of the extensive usage of the different disruptive technologies like automation, robotics and others. Adding to this, Brown, Lloyd and Souto-Otero [18] have noted that there are many corporations presently which are trying to foster artificial intelligence with the machineries that are presently being used within the different industries or the business corporations. These are not only likely to reduce the operations cost of the business corporations and thereby the profitability which is being registered by them but also the human error which the workers associated with them [20]. Needless to say, this is likely to positively affect the quality of the commodities or the goods which would be offered by these corporations and thereby their profitability as well. Therefore, it becomes important for the individuals related to the middle class who had relied over the years for getting adequate employment opportunities and thereby for the purpose of sustaining to enhance their skill sets or qualifications. For instance, these individuals need to upgrade their technological knowledge and also the skill sets that are required to handle the different machineries since in future the human beings are likely to only perform the job role of supervising the machines which in turn would complete the diverse tasks or the projects of the business corporations [9]. Furthermore, the individuals failing to acquire these skills or knowledge are likely to face a very hard to find suitable employment opportunities and also for sustaining them as well and would find themselves at a disadvantage in comparison to the individuals who possess those skills or qualifications.
Conclusion
To conclude, technology is inextricably tied up with the lives of the human beings and the effect of the same becomes perceptible when the changes that the society had undergone over the years are being taken into account. For instance, the transformation that had undergone within the business world on the score of the extensive usage of the different innovative technologies also directly affects the common people as well. In this connection, mention needs to be made of the disruptive technology of automation which had significantly reshaped the workforce of the different business corporations in the present times. More importantly, unlike the earlier times the individuals from the middle class background are no longer required to perform all the physical labor within the workplace of the different business corporations rather they are entrusted with the job role of supervising the work of the machines. However, the major problem arises since the majority of the individuals related to the middle class background lack the skill sets or for that matter the qualifications that are needed to effective handle the machines or the equipment. Thus, it becomes important for these individuals to acquire the required skills or qualifications which will enable them to cope up with the changes brought on by the extensive usage of the disruptive technology of automation by the business corporations in the present times. These aspects of the impact of the disruptive technology of automation on the future of work and also on the career prospects of the talented middle class workers become apparent from the above analysis of the same.
