The unity of the Bible is demonstrated through the Divine inspiration of the Holy Spirit on the human authors of Scripture. What is unique about the Bible is that it is all one big story about God and His people. The Bible has four major elements in it: creation, the fall, redemption, and restoration. When all of those are put together, it makes a unified message of the Bible. The sin nature and Jesus Christ are two topics in the Bible that are important and are essential in God’s story.
This narrative begins with God. In the beginning, God spoke and everything came into existence. He created the universe with galaxies, stars, and planets. With those planets, He created Earth. This is where the perfect paradise called the garden of Eden was. God’s masterpiece He created was man and woman. He created Adam and Eve in His own image. In the beginning, everything was created in perfect harmony.
There was no pain, suffering or sickness like there is today.
But unfortunately, something happened that would affect the rest of humanity- the fall. Adam and Eve had the freedom of to make decisions and to oversee the garden of Eden. One day, a fallen angel named Satan, wanted to become better than God so he lied to Adam and Eve. He deceived them and thus, they ended up disobeying God. Since they disobeyed, sin entered the world and into the hearts of Adam and Eve. All of creation was distorted from its original design.
Now that everyone has sinned and everyone will sin, mankind is eternally separated from a loving God. Because of all of this, something must be done. God made Adam and Eve a promise that one of their descendants would someday rescue mankind from sin.
Throughout the Bible, God was preparing the way for the birth of a savior. God used different prophets to predict the birth of Jesus Christ. As promised, God sent His one and only son in the form of a man to die for the sins of the world. Jesus lived a perfect life which was sufficient for the sins of the world. He was the perfect sacrifice. And lastly, for the restoration, for everyone who trusts in Christ, God has promised to make all things new. There will be a new heaven and a new earth that is completely free of sin. It will be a place where there will be perfect harmony with God like in the beginning. Revelation 21:4 states, “He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away” (ESV). Sin nature is important when it comes to the four major plot movements. If there was a perfect world the whole time, we would never need a sacrifice. It fits perfectly into God’s story.
The concept of original sin in Christian theology is a term that refers to the idea that original sin (a condition) precedes actual sin (the expression of sinful thought/action). It explains how sin originates in each one of us. Christians are told about their past so that they can understand their present. The actions of Adam have an effect on all of us. We are sinners by position, nature, and action (Everyday Theology). Unfortunately, our natural desire is to go against God and his ways. Knowing that, it is important that God sent his one and only son as a perfect sacrifice for our sins. Jesus Christ was the perfect answer in God’s story. One of the most popular verses in the Bible is John 3:16 and it says, “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.” One word that sticks out to me here is the word begotten. The original Greek word for begotten is monogenes. Thayer and Smith define the word as “single of its kind, only.” When the word is used in the Bible, the word is only used for sons and daughters in relation to their parents.
When the word begotten is used in relation to Christ, it is referring to Christ as the only begotten son of God. Since God is perfect, He can only produce perfect. This is what ultimately made Jesus perfect. This is important to the overall view of God’s story. In order to save mankind, there needed to be a perfect sacrifice. What better person than Jesus Christ. Jesus played the rescuing role in the unified message of the Bible. In conclusion, mankind is naturally sinful and someone had to take the price for sin. That person to pay the price was Jesus Christ. It was God’s plan from the beginning- creation, the fall, redemption, and restoration. Jesus Christ paid the price for our sin nature and now we can spend eternity in His glory.
