Technology has assumed an extremely important role in the teaching and education industry. This mainly elucidates the idea that technology and communication have become important aspects of learning and teaching practice. The first article by Gioiosa and Kinkel (2019), presents a detailed assessment of how technology and communication skills contribute to learning and teaching practices. Similarly, the second article by Gioiosa, Marie Elaine and Katherine Kinkela (2021), elaborates upon other methods of learning that may benefit a student in their educational journey. This means that the entire article focusses on the overall development of learning processes that may aid a student to learn more efficiently (Gioiosa et al 2021). The main aim of this essay is to compare two academic peer- reviewed articles and critically analyse the findings for the same. Both of these articles are based on the same topic which is the role of technology and advanced communication skills in the field of teaching. The findings from each of these papers have been critically analysed in this essay. These findings are then compared with each other and the similarities and dissimilarities among them are identified. Finally, the implications of the findings that were highlighted has also been elucidated in this essay.
According to Gioiosa and Kinkel (2019), technology plays a very important role in the process of learning. It is believed that the effective use of the correct technological strategies and equipment within the classroom promotes better learning among the students. This is mainly due to the engaging and interactive experience that the students gain from the incorporation of different forms of technology. Additionally, the paper also states that the role of verbal communication skills allows teachers to introduce new concepts, and make the students connect with it and truly understand the same. In the education field, students are one of integral stakeholders and therefore, their opinion regarding the different methods of utilizing technology and advanced verbal communication skills in the process of learning or teaching is to be considered as well. However, in regards to the second article, in accordance to Gioiosa et al, (2021), it can be seen that it elaborates about the importance of classroom exercises in regards to learning. This mainly suggests the fact that the second article suggests that classroom exercises such as active learning contribute to an easier learning experience. However, the paper also comes up with alternatives to the think- pair- share method that may equip students to learn more efficiently.
The main aim of this research article was to gather the opinion of students regarding this new process of active learning, with the help of either technology or communication skills (Gioiosa and Kinkel 2019). A quantitative study was conducted among the students in 6 different classrooms in the format of a structured survey. The results gathered from this study were analyzed with the help of certain data analysis tools and the findings from the same were outlined in the article. The findings portion of the academic article revealed that the students appreciated the use of technology and verbal communication skills to promote active learning. On the other hand, in regards to the second article, the methodology consists of open ended questions to get an idea about their opinion on alternate methods of active learning. This elaborates the fact that while the first article focusses more on looking into appropriate technology and communication skills that might help the classroom to learn better, the second article focusses more on finding alternatives for the think- pair- share method in active learning.
According to the article by Gioiosa and Kinkel (2019), it also states that the value of the research study being conducted was high. This was because in academic literature, very few studies have been conducted on the use of different technological inventions in the field of learning. The use of internet has been explored, but different technological products and their uses in this field was not the focus of such studies. The use of verbal communication skills and strategies in this field has been studied, but the view of the students of the same were not taken into consideration.
Another academic article on the same topic was chosen for the purpose of the comparison essay. According to Gioiosa, Marie Elaine and Katherine Kinkela (2021), the think- pair- share method of active learning is a good method of promoting active learning among a group of students. However, the main aim of the research study conducted in this article is to find a better alternative to boost the teaching- learning process in a classroom setting.
Two different group of students were chosen as the participants for the academic research studies conducted in this paper. These groups were required to sit for a knowledge- based test on the different concepts within their own course. However, each of these groups are controlled with different pre and post test processes like active learning and lecture -based learning. The results of the same are analyzed with the help of artificial intelligence (AI) and data analytic software. This differs completely from the methodology of the first article (Gioiosa and Kinkel 2019). This essentially lays emphasis upon the fact that the first article ensured that students from six accounting classes were asked to take part in surveys that consisted of classroom exercises including technology and communication skills. This means that while the second article conducted a series of tests, the first article focused on a more direct approach where student’s reaction, opinion and quality of learning through technology and communication skills were evaluated.
The process of analysis revealed that active learning has a significant advantage on the learning process, as compared to normal lectures. The results from the qualitative study also revealed the same result. The student feedback of the active learning was also significantly more positive. The paper also states that this particular research study is valuable as it provides an alternative to the think- pair- share method of learning. On the other hand, the results of the first paper state that the students had a positive outlook in regards to the classroom exercises which suggests that technology and communication contribute to enhancing the quality of learning. The two different research articles selected for this essay bases their research on the same foundation or concept. However, they take drastically different approaches to the same. Even so, the findings of both the articles were in alignment with each other. It was revealed that the method of active learning was essentially a better way to promote learning processes among groups of students. The findings from the second study focused more on the perception of the students regarding the process of active learning in comparison to that of a lecture- based method of learning within the classroom. The open – ended questions that was asked to the participants in the second chosen article revealed that the main reason behind them preferring the method of active learning was the interactive and engaging nature of the same. It allows them to learn through application as well, and also allows them to visualize the different concepts associated to the different topics that they are taught. Furthermore, an application- based method of learning promotes the development of creative thinking and innovation among the students.
Both papers that have been chosen talks about the use of technology or verbal communication in order to promote active learning. Even though the two papers reached the same conclusion, the way of getting there was not the same. However, it was revealed that even with different tools of data collection and analysis, and significantly different research questions were considered during the research process led to the same findings and conclusion. This is indicative of the substantial positive impact of active learning, in a number of different settings. The advantages of the same were also established in a clear manner.
In conclusion, this essay talks about the different reasons behind the superiority of active learning strategies, in comparison to other strategies like think- pair- share or lectures in a classroom setting. Two academic articles are chosen on relevant topics, and the findings from the same are conducted with each other.
The main aim of this essay is to reflect upon the different aspects of my course work. In this course I have studied a number of different skills or strategies that I can utilize to improve my learning and understanding process. I also completed a task that required me to choose two academic articles in two different or similar topics, and compare the different findings from the same. In this essay I have reflected upon these two aspects of my current coursework.
Study skills or learning strategies have a number of different methods for improving the learning processes for the students. As a part of my current coursework, I have learnt a number of skills that will help me significantly in improving my standard of study, as well as the process of the technique (Griffin et al 2020). These skill sets include a number of different skills that helps improve the quality of academic writing of a student, which might be very useful to them in the long- term. The experience that I gathered during the process is being outlined here.
One of the most significant strategies that I adopted during this time was that of referencing. I was already aware of the main reason behind referencing academic articles, it helps in improving the authenticity and reliability of the same. However, during my own course I learned how to reference an article properly with the help of the Harvard method. This is beneficial for me as it will help elevate my papers using this method. I also learnt the skill of notetaking during this coursework (Ooms et al 2016). This skill was required when my educator was giving out notes or providing important information regarding the different concepts within the coursework. In this process I learnt to take faster notes, while still maintaining the quality of the same. I believe that these skills will serve me well, both in my personal and professional life.
Reading skills are also a very important part of the skill set that an individual should possess to become successful in different aspects of their life. This skill also has a high importance in the different aspect of one’s life and also helps me as a student. If an individual can grasp the different skills necessary to become an avid leader, like informative reading, highlighting techniques (Amin 2019). The importance of vocabulary and grammar is also important in this aspect. However, one of the most important reading techniques that can be identified by me is that of fluency as well as attention. As a student I have learnt that when reading anything, pronunciation and fluency play a very important role. Clear speech allows better understanding and fluency helps in not disrupting the reading process. This skill was developed by me through rigorous practice and reading of different books or exerts (Kaur et al 2020). I believe that the development of these skills will give me an advantage in the area of reading any material and gaining knowledge from the same. Interpreting the meaning of the things that one reads, while the process of reading is a very important skill that I have also developed as a part of my coursework.
Another skill that I learnt during my course was that of learning through writing- technique. This technique enabled me to study a particular concept or chapter, and then enabled me to write down the learnings from the same (Little et al 2018). This process encourages students to learn by allowing them to set short -term goals and fulfil the same to gain motivation. The article review helped me develop my writing skills as I developed an understanding of how to clearly express myself when I write (Sinaga and Feranie 2021).
Another important part of my course work was to learn how to evaluate and assess articles. This task required me and all other students to choose one of the two articles provided to us, on the topic of education and technology. Next, another article was chosen from the reference list of the previous one. We were given the task of comparing these two articles and identifying the similarities and dissimilarities within the same. The task itself was not too difficult, but gave us an opportunity to showcase the reading skills that I have gathered during this course itself. I ensured that I utilized the same when reading the two articles chosen by me. I utilized my notetaking skills to identify the main findings and details regarding the research study was conducted. Once this process was complete, I compared the findings and jotted down in my notes and compared the same with the help of my analysis skills.
This particular task that was a part of my coursework was an educational one, as it increased my understanding of the importance of technology and communication in the process of active learning. When doing the task, I often needed to re- read the discussion portion of the two chosen articles. This helped me notice the little dissimilarities between the two chosen articles and understand the implications of the same within the conclusion. Thus, my skill of critical reading and analysis was utilized in an efficient manner when doing this task as a part of my coursework. This task also helped me in understanding the importance of a number of different skills related to the completion of the task. My educator provided me with a deadline for completing the task and submitting the same. This helped me boost my time management skills by planning out the progress of the completion of my task over a period of a week.
My critical thinking skills were also boosted when doing this assignment. This was because it was an important portion of the task which required me to understand and analyse the different points mentioned in the two different papers and identify the true implications of the same. The different ways in which the arguments disagree with each other in different aspect while agreeing on others also boosted my academic writing skills. The comparison essay was written in a structured and methodical manner (Said and Chiang 2020). Furthermore, this assessment also helped me develop a keen understanding of how to successfully and efficiently evaluate the findings of a research study. This paper presents a reflective account of my experience during the coursework. The different reading skills and other relevant academic writing skills that was taught to me as a part of the coursework and the impact it had on the development of my study skills was thoroughly discussed as a part of this essay (Xie et al 2021). In addition to this, the reflective essay discusses the comparison essay that I had to complete as a part of this course. The process that I followed when writing the essay, along with the different skills that I utilized in doing so were reflected upon within the assessment work as well.
