Experimenters try out ideas that are considered being new, theories as well as techniques for finding out whether are working. An analysis needs to be provided using the methods that Mager has described, a description of the learner also needs to be provided, which will be focusing on their specific style of learning and also a lesson plan along with a rationale relating to the sequence of activities need to be described. Regarding this exercise, I will be training Mark, who has recently showed his interest in becoming a professional tattoo artist. He is having no prior experience of designing tattoos but has got himself tattooed earlier in his two arms and on the neck. He is having a huge amount of experience relating to sketch drawings. Although, he is having a very good skill for sketching but he is aware of the fact that tattooing is quite different from sketch drawing. A skilled tattoo artist is having a strong eye in respect of shape, colour as well as line work. The skilled tattoo artist should have a thorough knowledge related to the hygiene factors and safety towards handling the tattoo machine.
The task I will be teaching my learner is how to make a permanent tattoo.
This is a major skill for anyone who wants to be a professional tattoo artist. Tattooing is considered being a form of art that many individuals believe is no different from sketch drawing. But, this is not correct. There are certain unique skills that a tattoo artist possesses. A skilled tattoo artist is having a strong eye in respect of shape, colour as well as line work. The skilled tattoo artist should have a thorough knowledge related to the hygiene factors and safety towards handling the tattoo machine.
In Step 1, there is the requirement for learning everything in regard to the tools that are involved in tattooing. It is recommended that the learner should learn everything in respect of the different tattoo tools that can be found.
In Step 2, the leaner needs to understand and learn the use of the tattoo machine in an effective manner. Tattoo machines might be having different appearance but each of them are performing basically the same task. Most of the tattoo machines are having similar parts, which includes standard contact points, contact caps, soldering lug, machine frame, needle tube, binding post, band hook as well as needle bar.
In Step 3, the learner should learn how to appropriately use the needles. There are two kinds of needle bars. These are considered being liners as well as shaders. Needles also come in various sizes in respect of the thickness of lines.
In Step 4, the learner should be paying attention to the inks, especially what they are made of and how they will be getting used. Tattoo inks are considered to be extremely significant regarding the process.
In Step 5, the learner after collecting all the tattoo supplies, is required keeping them in a well-organized area of work. Ideally, the workspace should be clean as well as organized.
In Step 6, the learner should be practicing on the tattoo practice “skins”. The use of the tattoo skins can assist the learner in getting the right depth of the needles, learning the appropriate handling as well as control and angle while practicing the skills, designs as well as techniques.
In Step 7, the learner is required preparing himself/herself and the Client to Tattoo. However, before preparing the client, the learner needs to ensure that he/she is well-prepared.
In Step 8, the learner is required making as well as applying the stencil. A stencil is considered being the best process in getting started. The learner can utilize a pre-made stencil.
In Step 9, the learner needs to remember that the outline is the foundation to build the remaining tattoo. When the outline is not good, the remaining tattoo will not be good either.
In Step 10, the learner should be having the knowledge of shadowing as well as shading. The learner should be able to master the proper techniques related to shadowing as well as shading.
At the time of interview, I sensed that Mark was feeling a bit anxious about becoming a professional tattoo artist. Although, he is having a very good skill for sketching but he is aware of the fact that tattooing is quite different from sketch drawing.
In my earlier interactions with Mark and in an interview prior to doing the assignment, I decided that Mark’s learning style (according to Kolb’s categories) was mostly ‘Convergent’. I made this decision because I feel Mark is having the capability for finding practical applications in respect of ideas, concepts as well as theories, and enjoys circumstances in which there is a single or best answer regarding a problem.
Mark is a friend of mine and neither of us did ever try teaching the other anything prior to this situation when Mark showed his penchant towards becoming a permanent tattoo artist.
The objective of the training is provided as under,
A tattoo machine having similar parts, which includes standard contact points, contact caps, soldering lug, machine frame, needle tube, binding post, band hook as well as needle bars. In addition, inks as well as tattoo practice “skins”. The learner will have to undergo a lot of practice before setting the needles upon someone else’s skin. For this he needs to do everything from practicing by drawing in the air as well as to build up the the agility as well as stamina by constantly practicing the design skills on practice skins. A person can become one of the top tattoo artists by having the knowledge of everything in respect of tattooing and the only possible way of applying this is through practice.
Practicing the designing of tattoos on the tattoo practice skins
The tattoo machine will be fitted with all the different parts. The ink will be kept close to the tattoo practice skin and various designs will be made keeping the work area well-organized. In addition, the application of stencils will also be done. The entire process will be completed in 3 hours.

Getting a tattoo practice skin. It can be bought from the local tattoo retailer or online. The generally have the measurement of 6” x 8”, but there is the availability of larger sizes as well. The equipments should be brought together. All of these should be set on a big table.
Student
10:00 am: There need to occur discussion with the learner about the reason for him to learn the task. Questions needs to be asked like, “Why do you think it is important to learn about shadowing as well as shading?”
11:00 am: How to make tattoos on a tattoo practice skin. The significance needs to be described. Demonstrations are to be made. The learner should be allowed to practice for a number of times, for ensuring that it is done in a correct manner. Different tattoo designs need to be shown to the learner and he should be asked to select the which were done correctly.
1:00 pm: Sitting in front of the tattoo practice skin discussion will be made as to how the designing process will be occurring. The learner needs to be invited for asking any questions. Discussions will be made indicating various aspects such as the impediments that are to be faced while designing the tattoo. Certain questions can be used such as, “What could be done when the ink finishes midway of designing the tattoo?” Different tattoo designing photos need to be shown to the learner and so on.
Everything started on a good note, with Mark showcasing a better understanding of tattoo designing. He prepared the equipments correctly without having the requirement for a huge amount of instruction.
When he started making the designs on the tattoo practice skin, he unintentionally used a different needle in the place of the needle that was supposed to be used for making a particular design. This resulted in the tattoo being prepared in an incorrect way.
We made the decision to take a break for some time since, Mark was not being able to concentrate on the work at a stretch. Both of us decided to do mediation for some time, so that Mark can regain his concentration and calm his mind.
On reflection, I am having the realization that I tried doing too much in the lesson. I needed breaking it up into various parts, beginning with primary tattooing procedures. I over-estimated how much my learner would be able to grasp from one lesson regarding the designing of tattoos.
What I did well was to explain to the learner all the stages of making a tattoo very clearly. I explained to him the significance of practicing, hygiene as well as safety measures that are required while making a tattoo.
Doing this again, I would certainly take into consideration the challenges that I faced in this session and would try to improve upon those aspects as well as inculcate new methods as well for improving the process of leaning in a more effective manner.
Conclusion
For concluding the assignment, it can be stated that the performance of the learners that have received the training needs to be reviewed. A method of improving the efficiency regarding a training programme is to do the offering of rewards when the learners will be meeting the goals related to training. There is also the requirement for the identification as well as development of the process of planning, which will not only support the learners but will also provide assistance to support the learners towards achieving new skills, adding values as well as providing motivation.
