What is Substance Abuse?

It is defined as the pattern of harmful or illegal use of drugs or other substance which have the potential to cause unhealthy behaviour and lifestyle. It is seen in the research that substance abuse is one of the most prevailing problem affecting the young generation of the growing population (Desai & Goel, 2018). It leads to death of more than 307,400 people each year in United States (Dart et al., 2015). There is the need to provide effective treatment or intervention to solve the rising issue

It provides the rationale framework to achieve equity, equality, and reliability in the commissioning of substance abuse treatment and care (Brooklyn & Sigmon, 2017). The evolved model of care gives information and guidance to manage the substance misuse service, general health and social care.

Advice and information- The patient is given information about the harmful impact of substance abuse and advice to quit from such

unhealthy behaviour.

Care planned counselling- This focus to create self-awareness about the substance abuse by providing effective education.

Structured day program- improve the mental status of the person

Inpatient drug- Accelerate the recovery process

Rehabilitation program- Improves the negative behaviour for better outcome of health of the patient.

• INDIVIDUAL-person with substance abuse has long term effect that could lead to lung disease, mental illness, cancer and even brain disorder. Stone (2017) has indicated that substance abuse can cause unemployment, low quality of life and loss of productivity.
• FAMILIES- substance abuse in person could increase the mental pressure of the families and its treatment could increase the financial burden in families. There is high level of criticism, negativism in house and parental inconsistency in the case of parents handling their child who is drug addicted (Trepka et al., 2018).
• COMMUNITIES-substance abuse is also accompanied by a overwhelming social impact upon community. It is reported in the study that prevalence of substance abuse in the community could affect the other individual as there is a risk of getting influence by such addiction (Stevenson et al., 2015). It has also increase the crime rate which is posing negative impact on community
• NATION-As substance abuse lead to increase in child abuse, domestic disputes, and poverty and financial health care burden could have negative impact on the economic growth of the nation (Mohamad et al., 2018).
