Introduction
Environmental pollution can be defined as the depth of penetration and disposal of hazardous waste, which contains corrosive materials and affects all spacious and natural habitat’s health by releasing toxic substances into the soil, water, and air. It can also be defined as the ecological hazard produced by humans, which destroys the ecological balance of ecosystems (Çepel, 2003). With the development of human life, science and technology, and industrialization, our planet has been seriously affected. This article focuses on three aspects of environmental pollution: light pollution, marine pollution, and soil contamination.
The Current Situation
Environmental pollution is one of the biggest challenges facing the world today (Madaan, 2019). The world’s environment is deteriorating due to the massive exploitation and use of natural resources by humans. The artificial light is getting brighter and broader every year and the “loss of night “in many countries. The soil is under pressure from population growth, pollution and higher demand for land use other than food production. About a third of the world’s soil is degraded. In addition, the ocean has been severely damaged by human activities, and more than 80% of marine pollution comes from human activities(Garces, n.d.). From plastic bags to pesticides – most of the waste we produce on land ends up in the oceans either by being deliberately dumped or by being dumped through drains and rivers.
The Reason
In the modern society, environmental pollution is mainly caused by human activities. At night, humans use lighting excessively. Excessive and immoderate use of lighting causes over-illumination which is also a type of light pollution (Shraddha, 2019). In addition, with the growing population, residential areas are gradually growing. In order to be able to build more houses, many land resources will be used. Wild animals and plants are expelled and replaced by human construction. Because of the development of modern industry, the main sources of marine pollution are chemicals, solid waste, radioactive element emissions, industrial and agricultural wastewater, anthropogenic precipitation, oil spills and the influx of many such factors.
The Effects
Environmental pollution has many negative effects on the planet and all living things on it. First of all, the impact of environmental pollution on people is mainly physical. It will bring various diseases to humans; like heart disease, lung cancer, asthma, etc. Secondly, environmental pollution mainly affects the living environment of animals through the pollution of biological environment and the extinction of animals it is because the living environment of animals has been destroyed. Third, environmental pollution causes plants to be destroyed by acid rain, and the forest area is gradually reduced. Finally, due to the serious damage caused by human activities to the atmosphere, it has a serious negative impact on the ecosystem (Rinkesh.,2019).
Solution
Some important suggestions have been made to reduce and control environmental problems and their negative impacts, because protecting the environment is not only important for people to lead a better life, but also for economic development: Firstly, many farms can benefit from soil health and water quality by substantially reducing inputs of agrochemicals while maintaining yields and profits. In order to minimize human’s abuse of agricultural land, the government should promulgate relevant laws on land use and protection. Secondly, wastewater recycling project should be implemented, and the establishment of a recycling centre in order to reduce water pollution in the lake. Thirdly, environmental education has a very important strategic role in cultivating people to solve global environmental problems. People need to be educated about the environment, because it has been developing rapidly (Onder, 2006).
Conclusion
In conclusion, humans excessively consume natural resources to benefit from them to meet their needs, and the environment is basically used to expand habitats and improve the quality of life (Onder, 2006). Excessive use of environmental resources can cause many environmental problems. Especially the continued demand for urban housing, infrastructure and urban activities to the urban environment has brought great pressure (Onder, 2006). Urban development undermines soil, water and air quality. The future of our city depends on people’s ability to protect and conserve energy use (Botkin and Beveridge, 1997).(684words)
