Address the following questions in 100 to 250 words each. Offer citations for all the sources you use.
* Throughout most of U.S. history, in a lot of locations, what race has been in the bulk? What is the typical ancestral background of a lot of members of this group?
Throughout U.S. history the race that has actually been the bulk is the “White Americans”. The more or most typical ancestral background of the members of this group consists of those who originate or have origins of Europe(Frey).
This would consist of people whose ethnic backgrounds are of the German, Swedish, Ukrainian, Irish, Czech, Polish, Dutch, Italian, Greek, Portuguese and even Arab. Or perhaps having origins from the initial individuals of the Middle East and North Africa (Frey).
* What are a few of the larger racial minorities in U.
S. history? What have been the typical ancestral backgrounds of each of these groups? When did each become a substantial or notable minority group?
A few of the bigger racial minorities in U.S. history are the African Americans, Hispanics, Asians ans Pacific Islanders. The African American population is growing more gradually than other minority populations. The variety of blacks increased by 25 percent between 1980 and 1998, from 26.1 million to 32.7 million (Population Bulletin). The most typical background of African Americans are that they are the descendants of captive Africans that were held as slaves in the US southern territories.
There are some Blacks who are immigrats or the kids of immigrants from the Caribbean (Frey).
Hispanics and or Latin Ameicans are really racially varied, so as a result of that they are more of a ethnic classification instead of a race. Theorigins of such a ethnic group includes people from Spain and/or Spanish and Portuguese speaking nations(n.d.). For the African Americans between 1900 and 1950, the minority share remained at about 13 percent (Population Publication). The number of minorities surged from simply under 10 million to nearly 21 million in the very first half of the century (Population Bulletin).
* In what ways have laws been utilized to impose discrimination? Provide examples. These laws were meant against which racial minorities?
The ways that laws have been used to enforce discrimination would be that the Jim Crow laws in the South prevented African Americans/Blacks from obtaining equality. For example: this law alled racial segregation in all public facilities in the south or southern states. Also formally known as the Confederacy. This law also provided inferior conditions as far aspublic facilities and even education. Which paved the way for social disadvantages(n.d. Jim Crow).
This form of laws being used to enforce discrimination was intended to be used against the minority of African Americans. Also in the Northern states De Facto was used to segregate housing enforced by convents, bank lending practices, and job discrimination, including discriminatory union practices for decades (n.d. De Facto). These laws are not nlimited to African Americans but other smaller racial minorties such as: Asians, Hispanics, and other immigrants that have migtrated to the Americas in that era of American history.
* In what ways have laws been used to eliminate discrimination? Provide examples. Did the laws work to eliminate discrimination?
The are some laws that have been used to eliminate discrimination such as the the Fourteenth Amendment. This law gives all citizens equal protection against discrimination. For example: Brown v. Board of Education, in 1954 the US Constitution prohibited segregation in public schools on the basis of race. The Court then required the public school districts to begin the process of integration(n.d racial discrimination). The laws did work to eliminate discrimination because the next generation got to know each other and realized that even though their skn tone is different, they are very much similar to each other.. By allowing the next generation to intergrate and get to know each other, the next generation learned and made the choice not to be racists.
