The report helps in the entire analysis of the reflection of the leadership journey wherein the evaluation of the leadership style which is being followed by me in the current scenario has to be analysed in an effective manner. The effectiveness along with potential of the leader is required to be analysed effectively which will help in preparing the plan for the continued leadership development effectively. The first part of the assessment will be discussing relating to the journey along with the current capabilities in an effective manner and capabilities. Lastly, the assessment will be relating to the development of the leader in the future.
Leadership is defined as process in which the individual influences others in order to accomplish the different kinds of objectives and directs the entire organization in the way which makes it more coherent and cohesive in nature (Ingram et al., 2015). There are different kinds of elements of the successful leadership in which this has been seen that there should be transparency, confidence along with decisiveness which is required to be inbuilt in the leaders in an effective manner (Chuang, Jackson & Jiang, 2016).
Furthermore, there are different skills of the leaders which are essential to be inbuilt in the different leaders of the organization (Bergh et al., 2016). As a leader, communication is one of the major factors which will help in explaining to the different employees regarding the different aspects of the organization such as various types of specific tasks (Demirtas, 2015).
Delegation of the tasks is the other factor and skill which is required to be done by the leaders in the organization as this will help in lowering the pressure from the employees (Birasnav, 2014). The leaders of the company as this will help him/her in gaining huge feedback from the employees effectively (Collinson & Tourish, 2015).
I will never forget the advice which was provided to me by my team leader in the previous organization where I have done my internship. When I first joined the company, I was not too extrovert and there were different issues faced by me during the first few months as I was not being able to communicate with the others in the department in which I was working as an employee. However, based on my performance the higher authorities of the company decided to promote me and I became the team lead and there were four employees who were working under me.
During this phase, I was scared and was not being able to understand the tasks which were required to be performed by me. I tried to analyse the different needs of the employees, however I was lacking few skills and qualities which are mandatory in nature to be followed by me as a leader as I had learned from my team leader.
The advice helped me as a team leader in the company as I tried to follow the different tips which was being provided to me effectively. My team leader was a transformational leader who tried to analyse the different visions of the employees who worked under him and this was effective in nature as to handle the different guidance of the employees effectively.
However, I lacked few essential components of a successful leader in which this was seen that I could not able to communicate with the team mates effectively and could not understand their issues in an effective manner.
For instance- A team member stood up and tried to analyse the different issues which was faced by them relating to a task which I tried to assign to them. However, I could not manage the questions which was asked by the member and I got confused. It has been seen that it is difficult for some of us and this seems challenging in nature to share the different things what we think and share.
Furthermore, previously I lacked the capability of proper decision-making along with gaining creativity in the different tasks which were performed by me and the team mates. I could not take any major decisions at the right specific time and I would take the help of my manager in each and every step.
This was one of the major shortcomings which was faced by me in managing the team effectively and efficiently. Additionally, I lacked creativity in which I was dependent on my team mates for the different decisions which were required to be taken by me in managing the teams in an effective manner (D’Innocenzo et al., 2016). I could not finish the different tasks in a strategic manner as I was not at all confident in nature in becoming a successful leader.
For instance- there was a situation in the workplace in which I had taken a wrong decision of increasing the working hours of the employees who worked under me as I felt this would improve the overall productivity of the organization. This was a wrong decision which was taken by me as due to this, there were different employees who left the job as they felt there was mental stress and this was one specific consequence in which I felt I was not a good leader and I could not perform the different activities appropriately as well.
These are the major shortcomings which was faced by me during my journey of becoming a leader in the previous organization. As a leader, this is essential and mandatory in nature for the leader to be confident and have proper decision-making capabilities as this is the sign of becoming a positive and effective leader which will be efficient in nature to become successful in nature and these were the things which I lacked the most during my leadership journey.
For instance- There was an instance which was faced by me during the time frame of me being a leader in the organization. I tried to perform the different tasks myself without the help of the different team members who worked under me. My logic behind this was that the different important tasks are required to be performed by the team leader and this was absolutely wrong as this burdened the pressure on me as there was no such delegation of the tasks.
There are different models of leadership which is required to be adopted by me as this will help in managing myself and the different tasks when I will be working in a higher position in a company effectively.
Intentional Change Model is one such models which was developed by Richard Boyatzis (2006) in which the learning and the changes are being incorporated. Furthermore, this is the comprehensive model of personal development and the personal changes and this will become the turning point in the career of the individuals as well (Klenke, 2016).
This is the first stage of identification of ideal self and this will be effective in working towards the goals and improving the current strengths as well. The second discovery will help me in identifying the different strengths and gaps in an effective manner as this will help in developing accurate understanding of the current self in an appropriate manner (Bolden, 2016).

From the previous instances, I have learnt that there are different kinds of changes which are being required to be adopted by me while becoming a positive leader. As per my team leader, there should be confidence in the leader which will help me in managing the teams more efficiently. From my past mistakes, I would be requiring different techniques which is required to be applied by me as to be a successful leader in the future and be a role model for the other employees in the organization.
Within the next five years, I would try to increase my major focus on the different leadership skills which are essential for me to become successful and gain more competitive advantage in an effective manner. As a successful leader, I need to analyse the needs of the team members which will help in managing the different tasks in an effective manner. The decision-making skills is required to be done which will help me in managing the various kinds of activities in an effective manner.
In order to be strategic in nature, one requires to think in a strategic and positive manner as this will help me in crafting and developing emotional intelligence as this will help me and the team members in the team to perform effectively and appropriately. Within the next five years, I will be working in a higher position in a respective organization in which I would require to be calmer and have to be creative in nature as well. Proper decision-making skills is essential in nature in order to manage the different individuals and tasks in an effective manner. I need to learn delegation of the different tasks among the different employees in the organization as this will help me and my team members in performing effectively without much difficulties.
Furthermore, there are different kinds of other qualities and training which is required to be adopted by me in the next five years which will help me in becoming successful and try to be smarter in nature in becoming more successful. The qualities are as follows:
