Discuss about the Weight Loss and Weight Management.
Weight loss and weight maintenance are one the major health crisis that many people seem to ignore thus causing the situation coming to an alarming factor causing a panic in the health sector due to an increase of many chronic diseases that has led to a significant number of deaths around the world. Overweight and obesity are caused by the increasing number and size of fat cells in the body. According to the statistics research done in 2014 shows the number of obese adults was 600 million and 42 million children who were under the age of 5 years. I have chosen to discuss this topic due to the alarming health issues that are increasing at a significant rate and therefore its considered as one of the greatest health problems in the 21st century. This report is mainly based on understanding how to live a healthy lifestyle through weight maintenance. Proper maintenance of weight is a big step towards health assurance to many serious diseases such heart diseases, cancer, type 2 diabetes and other chronic illness (Rundle-Thiele, et al. (2015).
Obesity is a medical condition caused by the consumption of excess food, lack of exercise and in some cases due to genetic inheritance. The main cause of overweight is due to the accumulation of excess fat in the body. For a person to be considered is suffering obesity his actual weight is divided by his height, and if the results do not range 25-30kg/m the individual is considered as overweight, this is also known as body mass index (BMI). The story myth that people suffering from obesity don’t eat a lot yet they still gain weight because of reasons such as slow metabolism is proven to be wrong because obese requires much energy to support their body mass than any other healthy body (Barry, et al. 2009).
Most victims are due to the inadequate food intake and eating junk food with excess calories this problem is majorly affecting the developed nations. The increasing rate of dependence on prepared food has also contributed to the poor food intake and also the high consumption of sweet drinks and beverages has mostly affected the young adult’s age a lot.
Sedentary lifestyle and lack of exercise are also another great cause of overweight and obesity condition. Many people now rely a lot on the technology regarding movement and even work that can help in burning the excess calories in the body system. Lack of body exercise or body activity affects the body hormones working rate thus leading to a reduced level of body insulin which causes overweight. Also, the lack of enough sleep can cause obesity by mainly increasing the body appetite or food intake thus increasing calories in the body system.
Obesity can also occur due to the genetic inheritance this means the obese body has great food satisfaction rate that makes the person consume a lot so as to feel satisfied. The research says that 1 out of 6 are faulty gene obese (FTO) and are known to consume junk food and beverages preferably (Guillaume and Björntorp, 1996).
Obesity is a health issue that is even considered as a disease mostly in western countries where it is very stigmatized unlike in the near past where this condition was seen as a sign of wealth or fortune and even parts of the world that belief is adamant. The research is based on previous records and statistics figures showing the results in 2008 and 2011 about Obesity in the world. People suffering from this condition are prone to many health issues thus even the mortality of an obese is quicker than of an average person. It is estimated that obesity is one of the high causes of deaths in the world contributing in causing 7.7% deaths in Europe that is 1 million people die because of obesity when it can be prevented or be minimized. The overweight high cause of deaths is known to be the fifth leading cause of deaths, and regarding figures, it’s approximated to kill 2.8 million adults every year worldwide (Ogden and Flanagan, 2008).
Obesity can lead to many health issues such heart conditions (heart failure, high blood pressure, abnormal cholesterol levels and coronary heart diseases), respiratory problems (asthma and obstructive sleep apnea). It can also lead to reproductive difficulties (complication during pregnancy and birth problems to the unborn, infertility and intrauterine fetal deaths), depression, diabetes type 2, cancer, stroke, gout, lower back pains and many chronic diseases. Depression condition is mostly prone to women than men also women are more affected by diabetes than men (Eckel and Krauss, 1998).
Diabetes cases are mostly due to the obesity where 77% of women and 65% of men with diabetes are obese. Cancer cases are mostly due to overweight and Obesity where some 7- 41% of cancers patients are obese. Also apart from adults being the great percentage faced with obesity, childhood obesity is a major issue where more boys are affected than girls. The range of boys suffering obesity is 6-26% and that of girl ranging around 4.6-17.8%. Pediatrics research done showed that many of children who were confirmed obese came from low-income family set up and neighborhoods. The childhood obesity is long term health effect that causes dangerous diseases at an early age such as high blood pressure hypertension, high cholesterol levels and too much clotting of fats in the liver and muscles (Hawley, et al. (2010). The childhood effect is a case too many premature deaths. Many of the adult’s obese victims are known to be from wealthy backgrounds, most of the women suffering obese are from affluent families and this due to the social ability to do less body activity in their daily routines.
Obesity can be prevented at the individual level through proper diet control by avoiding eating junk food and trying to eat fruits and vegetables. Also, the amount intake of food should consist of standard where one should also avoid excess food intake and eating all the time unnecessarily. A person should make time in his schedule in exercise; children should exercise at least 1hour daily and adults should also at least keep fit 3 hours on a weekly basis. Health visits for checkup are very necessary to every individual at least once every year.
Industries, however, have been a great contribution to the high spread of obesity condition by the production of junk food and beverages. So as to be able to solve the predicament, the industries should play a role in providing healthy diet products to their consumers. One of the main ways the industries can play a role in better nutrition provision is by reducing the amount of fat, sugar and salt content in their food production. Also, ensuring the availability of healthy and affordable food especially if the target markets are children and teenagers and giving awareness of proper healthy diet eating to their consumers. Severe obesity is treated through surgery. The type of surgery done is known as bariatric surgery, it’s considered as one of the most effective ways of treating the overweight problem. Although surgery is effective, it may at times have complications where issues come up in about 17% cases and sometimes reoperation is needed in 7% cases.
The determining factors about the target audience and market mainly comprise gender, age, ethnicity, race, social cultures, and traditions. The audience or market can be well studied through psychographic and demographic research of the population targeted. Psychographics is observing the people way of life, personality, things that they mostly treasure and dislike attitudes, culture, views and opinions about different ways of life applications. Demographics are the distribution of people age, gender, ethnicity, and race in particular region or area. Through the two analyses, one can be able to identify the most affected areas in the world, age, and how best to approach the concerned group of people (Ng, et al 2014).
Health sectors should make the public aware of the dangers of Obesity by doing civil teachings in public places, advertising on social Medias, hosting events and seminars. Most of the population due to the lack of knowledge see obesity as stigmatization to the people with the condition and saying they are perfect as any other ordinary citizens. In a different perspective, people suffering from obesity feel always stigmatized by the focus on them thus ashamed of their condition and through public awareness by telling them obesity can be treated things can turn around for the better. Public awareness program can effectively by identifying means to getting to the affected target victims. Obesity is not majorly a poor diet eating cause it also come from genetic inheritance and also it can be caused by medication prescription which may affect the body hormones. A good example is introducing the study programs to all learning levels of the awareness of obesity and its effect on the health of a person (Puhl, and Heuer 2010).
Also, commercial adverts are one of major best ways of passing information to the public this can well capture during break commercials in the news hours and during specific programs which are known to be popular with the public. Health sectors during the awareness campaign should consider making the program more beneficial to the public by mostly showing the effects that can be evaded by proper weight maintenance and good diet feeding. The strategy approach in making the public aware can be maximized through making victims aware of their condition and accepting themselves to be able to change or work on their status(Rundle-Thiele,et al. (2015).
The best weight maintenance can be achieved from the extra individual effort on healthy diet and occasional body exercises. Healthy diet comprises of many approaches example is the control not eating excess food and avoiding eating junk food. One should avoid eating habits that are not due to hunger but just as behavior, avoid combining carbohydrate food with fats or proteins and prevent drink beverages that have calorie. The first step in avoiding obesity is by good food nutrition that has free calories and by this one can be able stay free of many diseases. (Brownell, 2005).
Sedentary life and lack of exercise is of the rapid rates that cause obesity through making body hormones be less active and also reducing level of body insulin. The activities can be approached from different views where one can choose to have daily walks, daily running or jogging, daily or weekly visits to the gym, home exercise with media or personal guide and many others. The different approaches are best suit different individuals by each person’s lifestyle. In addition to proper diet, one is supposed to drink a lot of water and practice eating at least a fruit daily and exercise vegetable diet.
Healthy living lifestyle is can also be achieved through the proper betterment of life by the government and in collaboration with the health sectors. Governments should play a role in the industrial control of harmful products to the public. Industries have eradicated the health of many people by providing prepared food typically known as junk food with the aim of only making best of profit and not considering the health of their consumers and the public. The provision of prepared food by industries has led to poor food intake with excess calories thus causing harm to the health of public. The effect of this act costs the government even much more on health expenditure than the tax return they receive from the industries. The government can regulate the problem by making laws that the industries should a bind by meeting the required standards. Also, the government in collaboration with the health sector should offer public exercising facilities that are best equipped to boost the people moral and weight maintenance (Seiders and Petty, 2004).
According to the findings to this report, Obesity is a significant medical issue that requires considerable attention both as a country and as the whole world in general. People having this condition should be able to access health consultancy on their health since this acts as exposure to much medical misfortune. Obesity disease is a problem that can be controlled and even avoided. The condition is majorly caused by poor nutrition feeding and lack of body exercise. Also, the condition is not prone to age limit it can affect anyone thus healthy lifestyle living should be encouraged so as to reduce the death numbers and many diseases that be prevented by control of obesity (Rössner, et al. (2000.).
Conclusion
Overweight and weight maintenance is a major health issue that globally affects everyone in the world. The health hazards that are prone to people suffering from obesity is one greatest health risks one experience that none could want to go through. The obesity problem is a major health problem affecting almost all government health in the world and the only remedy to solving the problem is through making everyone to understand that obesity is curable or preventable and this can only be done through self-acceptance and willingness to have a healthy lifestyle.
