Discuss about the HR to Gain Employee Commitment.
It is the chapter that provides the depth understanding about the various tools, techniques and methods to conduct the research in an appropriate manner. Research methodology is the significant part of the entire research study which reflects the methods and techniques take for the conclusion of the research appropriately. This section of the research entails the various methods utilised for data gathering in which various techniques are taken in use for sampling. It elaborates the limitations of the research which gives the effective overview of the project of the research and its techniques. The topic “Best Practices of HR to Gain Employee Commitment in Information Technology Service Industry” has been chosen for the research paper in which research design and evaluation plan has been made. The major aim of this section is to define the research design of the research paper. The description will be given in this section of the research of the research philosophy, research approach, research design, and research strategy and data collection method. These techniques are effective to gather the data regarding the topic because without collection the data, the researcher would be unable to draw the conclusion.
The role of research philosophy in the research project is wide as it develops the understanding and awareness of the researcher regarding the concern of the research. A research philosophy is considered as the belief about how to conduct the research in which data regarding a phenomenon should be collected, evaluated and used. It is necessary for the research to opt the appropriate research philosophy because it facilitates to recognize the process of gathering, analyzing and evaluating the information. According to the chosen research topic, the philosophy of the research can be distinguished into some kinds such as positivism, interpretivism and realism philosophy. Positivism philosophy defines the actual information which is completely based on the statistical information and data. While, realism philosophy is dependent on the beliefs of human, this is remained in the environment. In the context of Interpretivism philosophy, it enables researchers to make the effective research by gathering the different views and opinions of participants. The interpretivism philosophy is taken for use to conduct the research paper as it helps researcher to access the views and opinions of participants (Schwartz-Shea & Yanow, 2013). The valid conclusion can be drawn with the help of this method regarding to the effective practices of HR to attain the employee commitment (Sikora & Ferris, 2014). In contrast, the chosen philosophy method for this research is not regarding to left two philosophies that is realism and positivism to handle the research concerns, because there is no requirement to utilize vastly structured methodology like hypothesis building and verifying, and need of evaluation of the outcomes on the basis of findings.
The research questions which are mentioned in the chapter of Research Design and Evaluation should be answered in an appropriate manner. The employee commitment is the effective approach that facilitates to increase the productivity of the employee in attaining the competitive advantages. There are issues such as increase pressure, less social relationship, lack of safety and improper work life balance in the company which have been mentioned earlier (Phillips & Phillips, 2016). The HR Practices of HR should be executed in an efficient manner to attain the competitive advantages. The selection of research methods helps to gather the factual data regarding the topic (Sani, 2013).
The selection of the research approach is vital for the research project in order to define the chosen designs and methods of the research. It is helpful to define the data in a systematic manner. Inductive approach and deductive approach are two major approaches which help researchers to rationalize the utilization of specific data collection and analysis methods for project. It is necessary for the researcher to have the effective knowledge about these methods otherwise lack of understanding may lead researcher into incorrect conclusion that may impact the entire research adversely. Deductive approach is referred as the suitable approach which is related to the positivism philosophy, on the other hand, deductive approach makes the hypothesis regarding to the issues of the research in which various theories are being used. It is necessary for the researcher to gather the information about the several data and knowledge to admit or reject the hypothesis. While, the research approach of inductive reflects the flexibility in the form of not showing the need to enhance hypothesis regarding the research issues (Cottrell & McKenzie, 2011).
In the context of this research study, the use of inductive approach is being taken in comparison of deductive approach. Inductive approach is chosen due to its ability as it can enable researcher to attain the knowledge regarding subjective on the research concerns. With the help of this research, the researcher facilitates to increase the validity and the reliability of the outcomes of the research. Through this, the researcher also facilitated to gather the data and improve the explicit conclusion to define the best practices of HR to achieve the employee commitment. While, deductive approach is also facilitated to develop hypothesis to respond the questions of the research. Inductive approach is generally related o the qualitative method while deductive approach is regarding to the quantitative method. Mixed research approach is taken to conduct the research in which the combination is made up of qualitative and quantitative method (Cohen, Manion and Morrison, 2013). Inductive approach has the feature of exploratory in which the data can be gathered with open minded regarding the HR practices to attain the employee commitment. Information technology companies are dealt with many projects which should be accomplished within time frame by employees and it can be done in an efficient manner by finding out the resolutions of the issues within the company.
The research design defines to the entire strategy that opt to incorporate the various parts of the study in a logical and rational way, in that way, making sure it would appropriately address the issues of the research, it includes the proposal for the measurement, collection and evaluation of the data. There are many types of research studies that facilitate researchers to decide the research design of the project. The research design entails three kinds of designs such as descriptive, casual and exploratory (Lewis, 2015). Exploratory research is referred as the research that facilitates to resolve the issues that has not been considered or studied more in concise manner, proposed to make priorities, enhance definitions of operational and get better the research design for the entire research. It is considered as the initial research in which exploratory research facilitates to achieve the concerns with the help of made hypothesis (Beavers, Lounsbury, Richards, Huck, Skolits & Esquivel, 2013). While, the role of descriptive research is huge as it sustains researchers to get effective information about the concerns of the research through defining the phenomenon. It is used in the research project to describe the characteristics of the phenomenon being studied. It is not taken in use as per the causal relationship, where a single variable affects another. It is the initial stage to enquire about the factors of the research topic. In the context of causal research, it can be said that it is more focused towards the causes and affect the bonding between variables (Neuman, 2014).
For this research paper, exploratory as well as descriptive research designs are chosen to address the issues of the research paper. Exploratory research would be helpful for the researcher to get depth information about the data regarding to the best practices of HR to attain the commitment of employee. It links the causes and effects of the data to the research topic which enables researcher to gather data in an adequate manner. On contrast, the role of descriptive design is huge in the research as it helps researcher to discuss the theoretical data regarding to the research topic. Along with that descriptive design maintained the better understanding to the characteristics of group’s as well as individuals. These designs facilitates in gathering the viewpoints and perception of participants so that the objective of the research and the responds of the research questions can be met in significant manner (Mowday, Porter & Steers, 2013). By this method, the researcher enables to gather the significant data from the various resources like journals, articles, books and websites in order to develop the reliability in the outcomes of the research. In the context of primary data collection method, face to face interview method and survey are being conducted to collect the accurate information. This method facilitated the researcher to gather the view points of the opted applicants regarding the issues of the topic and best HR practices.
Research strategy has significant role in the research study as it is considered as the vital components, which facilitates researchers to examine the issues of the research by providing efficient answers in appropriate ways. Researchers can gather the effectual background information about the research topic due to effective research strategy. The specific conclusions can be drawn in sophisticated manner by analysing the gathered data. There are research strategies such as questionnaire, survey, literature review, experiment, focused group, interviews, case study, experiment and observations through which researcher can attain the objectives and aims of the research (Mackey & Gass, 2015).
Research survey and interviews are considered as the research strategies by the researcher to collect the data regarding the best practices of HR in information technology companies to attain the employee commitment. The survey strategy facilitates researcher to gather data in less time and costs that increase the reliability of the research in an adequate manner among stakeholders. The interview strategy is also beneficial for the researcher as it is useful to collect the depth information about personal perceptions, feelings and emotions of an individual regarding the research concerns. It is also facilitated in enhancing the validity of the research (Hyman & Sierra, 2010).
Data collection is the major part of the research study as it refers to gather data in an adequate manner from the usage of various sources to meet the objectives of the research. The suitable collection of data facilitates researcher to enhance the knowledge about the concern of the research’s concerns. Primary and secondary are the two major types of the data collection methods which are being used by the researcher to gather the data regarding the topic (Silverman, 2016). In the context of primary data, it can be gathered from the fresh information which is gathered very first time by the researcher (Klenke, 2015). The researcher can utilize the interview, questionnaire, action research and survey. On the other hand, secondary data is effective data which is collected by other agencies or researchers to meet their needs. It is the data which can be assessed by researcher in an adequate manner to meet the objectives of the research. The secondary data can be gathered with the help of articles, books, newspapers, journals articles, magazines and many more. For the topic of research “Best Practices of HR to Gain Employee Commitment in Information Technology Service Industry”, the researcher use both approach to gather the data in significant manner. It is because the primary data collection method is useful to make straight interface with the people in order to get knowledge about the perceptions and views of them regarding the research issues which is mentioned in the assignment of Design and Evaluation Methods. On contrast, the utilization of secondary data collection method is efficient to develop theoretical and depth understanding regarding the issues of research (Gray, 2013).
Sampling strategy defines the selection of the proper participants who involve in the research study to provide proper answer regarding to the questionnaire which is helpful to attain the objectives of the research. Probability and non-probability strategy are the two methods of sampling strategy which facilitates researcher to opt the definite observations from the selected population. In the context of probability sampling strategy, it can be referred that it is the sampling method that aids in the term of random selections of the participants. Random sampling method gives the opportunity to get selected in the research with equal chance. On contrast, non-probability sampling strategy is a method of sampling where all individuals are not getting equal chance of being chosen (Emerson, 2015).
Both strategies of sampling are being used for this research. Probability sampling strategy is used in this research with the method of random sampling strategy to opt the applicants for the survey questionnaire. For questionnaire, 50 employees of IT service industry are being selected. In the context of non-probability strategy of sampling is used in the research by taking convenience sampling strategy to select the applicants for interviews in which their skills, experience and knowledge are analysed. For getting data by this sampling strategy, 4 HR Managers of IT industry is selected for the face to face interview. It would be helpful for the researcher to get instant information, views and perceptions of HR Managers during interview regarding the issues of the research topic (Marshall & Rossman, 2014).
It is vital for the research after considering the collected data and information to analyze them for developing the valid and reliable results to the concerns of the research. It has been found that there are various methods available which can be used by researcher to analyze the data in an appropriate manner. These methods are statistical analysis, content analysis, disclosure analysis and conversational analysis which help to make effective and noteworthy analysis of gathered data (Babbie, 2016). Statistical data analysis method is being used to analyze the data in effective manner. With the help of this approach, the researcher is enabled to define the vivid statistics of the data which entails correlation, regress along with the cross tabulation. It interprets the significance being the answers of the applicants.MS Excel is being taken in use to analyze the data in which the data is shown in the graphs and tables to enhance the better understanding about the best prices of HR to attain the employee commitment. The data listing method is effective method which shows the data in a sequence manner (Thomson & Emery, 2014).
The reliability of the research is the amount to which the research develops the continuous outcomes. It defines that reliability in data is necessary to get trust of the users of the research. The reliable data should be valid as well. The researcher is endeavouring to maintain the reliability and validity of the data by taking genuine permission from the higher level of authority of organization of IT Industry. The survey is being conducted by the researcher for the mutual advantages of the best HR Practices. Referencing is given to the used data in the research so that the genuineness and validity can be shown in the research (Kimberlin & Winterstein, 2008). The data which is utilized in this research is kept with strong and authentic passwords so that unreliable and unauthentic identity cannot mould the perfection of the data (Gratton &Jones, 2010).
The definition of ethics in the context of research study is to the accomplishing the every task of the research in an ethical manner through follow the guidelines of the university and privacy of participants. This section of the methodology part helps to adopt the effective behaviour for accomplishing the research in a systematic manner. The research is faced the concern of copyright issues, plagiarism and breaking of data in the relation of collection of secondary data. These concerns are alleviated with the help of researcher through giving full credit to the researchers and authors in relation to provide references and in-text citation in each paragraph. The specific languages are used by researcher to interpret the collected data to the other in order to reduce the similarity report.
Primary data is the major data for this research as it gives fresh information about the research topic and for this researcher has taken appointment from the opted applicants for gathering the primary data regarding to the concerns. With the help of this the researcher would be able to gather the data in depth details. It enables researcher to sustain the reliability as well as the validity of the information in an effective way. Along with that the data protection act is considered while implementing the research which represents the maintained integrity during research. These activities of the research enables user to get trust on the data and information. Confidentiality has been maintained while researching the data and no modification has been placed in the research which shows the significance in the entire research (Rossi, Hallett, Rossini & Pascual-Leone, 2009). The taken information from the interviewees was destroyed after using the information so that misuse of that data cannot be taken place in the research.
Conclusions
It has been concluded from the above discussion that the methodology section is the clear process that facilitates researcher to use different approach and techniques to attain the objectives of the research. It has been shown by this section of the research that research has taken both approaches such as qualitative and quantitative to gather the information about the chosen topic. Different research philosophies, designs, approaches, data collection method and strategies are examined by the researcher in term to the influence the best practices of HR on employee commitment. The best approaches and techniques are being chosen by researcher to collect the data in an adequate manner. The ethical considerations have been considered in this research project that shows the validity and reliability of the research. It can be stated that proper methodology of the research can enable researcher to fulfil the aims and objectives of the research in an appropriate manner.
